Interestingly, the Superstar Rajinikanth did not have a release in 2000. He was busy with the production of Baba (2002). However, his absence allowed other stars to expand their fan bases. Kamal Haasan also took a break after Hey! Ram (released in February 2000, but made primarily in 1999). However, Hey! Ram deserves a mention as it was a period drama about the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, showcasing Kamal’s prowess as a director and writer.

In 2000, the transition of power from the older veterans to the new guard—Ajith and Vijay—was in full swing.
