Set along the Danube River in a multi-ethnic, ramshackle community, the film follows Matko, a small-time swindler, and his teenage son Zare. Matko gets involved with the local gangster Dadan, leading to a series of chaotic events: a botched train heist, a wedding forced upon the unwilling Zare, and the reappearance of a legendary “grandfather” figure who literally rises from the grave.
