Two sisters from Varanasi – and Chutki (Konkona Sen Sharma) – live in a crumbling family. Their father (Anupam Kher) loses his job; their mother (Jaya Bachchan) struggles. Badki moves to Mumbai to earn, but finds only exploitation. She eventually becomes a high-profile escort (euphemistically called a “corporate socialite” ) under the fake name Natasha .
