Lootera is loosely based on O. Henry’s short story The Last Leaf . Set against the backdrop of the Zamindari abolition in West Bengal, the film follows Varun (Ranveer Singh), an archaeologist who arrives at the mansion of Zamindar Sanjay Leela Bhansali (played by Barun Chanda) to excavate a temple.
